Agricultural Spraying

Applying pesticides via a contractor offers a number of benefits, including potential cost savings to farm businesses and risk mitigation. With our top of the range Bateman RB35, we are able to offer reliability and accuracy in all applications, with application widths of 12-24-30 meters. Contract spraying gives the farmer better budgeting ability, being able to manage fixed costs, reducing depreciation, lowering insurance costs and freeing up staff members for other jobs. Liquid Fertiliser

There are a number of reasons why a growing number of farms  are choosing liquid fertiliser. All points of delivery, storage and application of liquid fertilisers are designed to be as safe, secure and simple as possible.  Requiring less machinery, human contact and environmental exposure it’s easy to see why more and more growers are choosing liquid fertiliser.  Targeted sprayer application of your liquid fertiliser allows for entire field coverage, right up to the margins. This helps to ensure that all of your crops get the nutrients they need, when they need them, creating an environment for maximum yield potential.

At SGR Farming, we use Fast Cap ESI nozzles to apply liquid fertiliser at rates from 125-450L/ha. Six identical fluid streams distribute liquid fertiliser with optimum accuracy to more plants with excellent stream stability to reduce crop scorching. We can also offer a bowser service to cart fertiliser from the main storage tank at the farm, out to the field to maximise application efficiency. Keeping sports pitches in a weed free state is vitally important. We use high-precision, GPS guided machinery to apply selective herbicides and fertilisers to an array of sports surfaces, including bowls greens, cricket pitches, football and rugby pitches, golf courses and even campsites. The control of broadleaved weeds in amenity grassland  is all carried out by licensed operators, registered with NRoSO. Spraying with safe, modern pesticides is an extremely effective part of any weed control programme and we have extensive knowledge of the herbicides that will best suit your individual situation. We can control weeds such as:

  • Dandelion

  • Plantain

  • Buttercup

  • Thistles

One of the most important factors in efficient weed control is spraying at the correct time of the plants life cycle, when its most vulnerable. We can cater for pre-season and post season applications to fit around any fixtures or events. Please get in touch to discuss your weed burdens so we can create the right solution.

Paddock Topping and Maintainance

Regular topping of grassland is an essential part of paddock maintenance. Ensuring you have a good quality grass sward will not only look great, but last longer. We offer a range of topping, harrowing and rolling services specific to customers needs. These include:

  • Small paddock rotary topping

  • Small paddock flail topping

  • Large scale (hay fields) rotary topping with our 4.6m batwing topper.

  • Electric fence line flail topping

  • Harrowing and rolling

Please get in touch to discuss any of your paddock maintenance requirements.

Soil Sampling

Soil that is lacking in certain nutrients will not only produce a reduced quantity of poor quality grass, but will also allow and increase in weed population. Analysis of the soil is essential to accurately identify how healthy the soil is and what nutrients it may be lacking.

Soil samples are taken from a number different areas in order to obtain an average analysis of the entire field, then the samples are sent to a laboratory for testing.

Once we have received the analysis, we can discuss the results and create an action plan for future nutrient applications.

Also measured within the analysis is the soil pH, which is arguably the most important factor for a quality grass sward. The ideal pH for grass is 6-6.5 . Soil with a lower pH will cause poor grass growth and often strong growth of weeds such as nettles, docks and buttercup, so its important to rectify this first and foremost. We offer either a full soil sampling option or a stand alone pH test to identify the acidity of the soil.
